Corina Duyn\u2019s creative story dates back to her <\/span>early years<\/strong>.<\/a> Making her first doll aged 10 and her first puppet aged 15. Her professional doll and puppet making came after a move to Ireland in 1989. Her Fantasy Folk <\/span>work<\/strong><\/a> is in private and corporate collections.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being involved in the creative arts has been an invaluable support to Corina to bring understanding in her journey through the illness ME. (1998). One of her first drawings during illness was that of a puppet – questioning \u2018who is holding the strings\u2019. (The drawing can be seen in her lecture blog posts and videos). She has often remarked: \u2018Puppetry forced me to look deep into the reality of my illness. Poetry defined the experience.\u2019<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When having reached a (temporary) improvement in her health Corina facilitated the \u2018Life Outside the Box\u2019 puppetry project in 2015. This was followed by teaching puppet making classes in her studio in Lismore. As well as delving into researching the power of the puppet. She received invitations to give lectures at universities, symposia and puppet festivals as a result. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life is always changing and so is her creative ability. Since 2018 Corina has not been able make puppets, but some were used to tell the story of moving into full time care in 2021, in the \u2018I brought the dream of flying\u2019 exhibition at GOMA in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>Fantasy Folk (1990-1998)<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Moving to Ireland from her native Netherlands saw the start of Corina\u2019s Fantasy Folk<\/a> <\/strong>Artist Dolls and Puppets. She had her work in shops and had solo exhibitions. She also did private and corporate commissions, including for Waterford Crystal. Her work was often featured in the media, including on television. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1998 she taught a month long puppet making course with two young art students from Finland in her studio. She also taught puppet making in a group home for teenagers in the months before illness changed her life. Decades later she still feels she let these wonderful young people down by suddenly having to give up teaching due to illness. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life Outside the Box <\/a> (2015-16)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Corina Duyn facilitated the   Life Outside the Box<\/strong><\/a> Project (2015\/6) while a member of the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) Dungarvan Resource Centre. The film, depicting puppets stepping out of the disability box, has since been screened in Canada, London and on Irish national television<\/strong><\/a>. Supported by Create- Artist in the community scheme. Talks (2017-21)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Puppeteers and academics became aware of Corina Duyn\u2019s work and research. She received many invitations to speak and lecture, starting with the first Broken Puppet: Puppetry, Disability and Health Symposium<\/strong>.<\/a> UCC, Cork, August 2017. During 2018 Corina shared her experiences of disability, art and puppetry at the Nottingham Puppet<\/strong> Festival<\/strong><\/a> UK, Puppet Place (Bristol); keynote at Broken Puppet 2 symposium, Bath<\/strong> <\/a>UK and through a video at Puppet Power Conference in Calgary, Canada; Cork Puppetry Festival<\/a>; II Puppet Therapy Seminar of Belo Horizonte<\/a>,<\/strong> and Diplomado Mu\u00f1ecoterapia<\/strong>,<\/a> <\/span>Read interview on Puppet Place \u201cPuppets and ME: An interview with Corina Duyn<\/a><\/strong>\u201d 2017. She continued to lecture online in Chile<\/a> <\/strong>in 2019 till 2021<\/strong> <\/a>, as well as Cork Puppet Festival<\/strong>  <\/span><\/a>in 2021. Invisible Octopus<\/a> (2019-2020)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In 2019 Corina was awarded anArts and Disability \u2018Connect\u2019 Bursary<\/strong><\/a> for mentoring by Puppet Master Dr. Emma Fisher. Her initial focus was to create a video with her existing puppets. See  <\/span>Blog series about the project <\/a><\/strong>. Over time this work turned into the video poem called Invisible Octopus<\/a> <\/strong>with shadow puppetry imagery. Corina recorded this lecture on the role of puppetry in exploring life with illness\/disability in 2021 (00.49mim) as giving lectures, even online became impossible. Puppet Making Course<\/a> (2016-now online)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Corina spend many years teaching students in her studio, to share the magic of the puppet. On request she later supported students online, resulting in a series of videos and online books. In 2021 Corina could no longer support students and decided to make all her teaching materials FREE to  <\/span>access online as a self directed course. I brought the dream of flying <\/span><\/a> (2023)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Corina moved into long term care in April 2021, ages 59. Through Waterford Healing Arts (Realta) Corina worked with Artist Caroline Schofield. Although this was not an initial plan their collaboration became the \u2018I brought the dream of flying\u2019 exhibition at GOMA, Supported by Creative Ireland, where her existing puppets took on the story of moving into long term care.
