A few links to websites of people I admire. I must admit the links are mainly to women involved in the arts.

  • Spark Deeley Cork based artist who divides her time between illustration projects, fine art painting, mural art commissions and community art teaching. She wrote and illustrated her first book: Into the Serpent”s Jaws – A story of transformation.
  • Mariela Martin American Fine Art photographer living in Lismore. Mariela works with large format- Black and White film, developed in the darkroom.
  • Pascale de Coninck a weaving artist who has converted me (or got me addicted) to weaving. Forever grateful!
  • Jane Jermyn Lismore Ceramic Artist, friend and amanuensis to Hatched. The inspiration for Jane’s work comes from the natural world – geological formations, strata and textures.
  • Kirrily Anderson the brains behind the Creative for a Second Projects’s own website. Beautiful!
  • Julia Cameron ‘s books The Right to Write and the Artist Way were fun and invaluable books which helped me rebuild the confidence to explore the artist, and writer in me, and find a new way to live within the boundaries of M.E.
  • Tove Jansson is one of my favorite writers. I love her Summerbook, Winterbook, most of all Fair Play.
  • Ester Freud writer of The Wild, a brilliant novel about childhood: “Everything was going to be different this year” – I loved it!
  • Ann Kelley s book: The Bower Bird is the  story of Gussie, a precocious young girl with a rare heart condition. Despite this, she is determined to live life to the fullest, experiencing typical adolescent troubles such as love and parent troubles.  I recognized a lot about my own journey though an illness.
  • Suzy Becker ‘s book with the intriguing title ” I Had Brain Surgery, What’s Your Excuse?” I simply HAD to buy it. I must say I read it as fast as remotely possible. The cartoons are a wonderful addition to the writing.
  • Nell McCafferty is an Irish journalist, playwright, civil rights campaigner and feminist. A great woman all round!
  • Ms. Diranne, an inspirational woman who died at the age of 109 noted in her autobiography (which she dictated at the age of 103): “She did not leave any fortune for her descendants, only “the sunshine to the flowers, honey to the bees, the moon above in the heavens for all those in love, and my beloved Aran Islands to the seas”. See: here for her story.
  • The creative-women site is dedicated to showcasing the creative talents of amateur and professional lesbian authors, artists, poets, musicians, songwriters, crafts women …and just about any other creative artistic medium you can think of!
  • The writer of the lyric Little Wings Kris Delmhorst
  • The only man on my links page, but a true treasure: Paddy Vaughan is an 86-year-old writer of  The last_forge in Lismore, and true Lismorerian. He wrote a book about his life as a blacksmith in town. Paddy sadly passed away on the 7 Dec. 2010. His memory will live on. A very special man
