The stories you find in this ‘book’ are a selections of recent works.
Page 1: The ‘Beauty of Decay’, was written for the “Creative for a Second Journal’ and is an observation/thought if people with a disability are less beautiful.
Page 3: ‘I couldn’t resist’ also written for the inclusion of the journal is a short poem.
Page 4: Release the Bees out of our Bonnets’ was first publihed in the Dungarvan Observer.
Page 8: ‘Those Disabled look funny don’t they’ was published in the Dungarvan Observer, Avondhu, and Irish Examiner, (under the title ‘Disability is no Laughing Matter‘). Both are a witty and honest reflection on living life in Ireland as a disabled person and having to deal with the health service. A first class of Middleton secondary school wrote me a letter of support. Thank you so much!
Page 11: ‘Edvard Munch meets Louis Armstrong’ is story about the passing and life of my mother. It won runner up prize in the 2010 Irish Wheelchair Association Writing Competition (in conjunction with the Irish Writers Centre) Judicator Michael J Farrell: “This is an elegantly written and fondly remembered memoir, with just enough whimsy to keep it from being lugubrious.”
